Initiated in the year 2008
The Childhood Cancer and Inherited Blood Diseases program offers on a yearly basis free comprehensive treatment to 1000 children with cancer and inherited blood disorders. Comprehensive care is delivered by a multidisciplinary team of dedicated and expert health specialists. All affected children receive free outpatient consultations, hospitalizations, medications, laboratory and imaging studies as well as psychosocial support.
The annual cost of treating a child with cancer is around $50,000, and for one child with an inherited blood disorder ranges from $30,000 – $40,000.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, economic crises and August 4 Blast simultaneously hitting Lebanon, this cost is becoming unaffordable. There is also a shortage of medications and hospital beds which further compromises the care and life of these children.
Despite all the above, we at GNK Foundation are keen to sustain delivering expert free care to every one of the 1000 children we proudly care for because we believe children have the right to live a healthy and pain free life and we have the responsibility to help them live the life they deserve.
